Thermomagnetic writing on Gd-Fe and Gd-Fe-Y amorphous films was studied.The size of a bit written on a Gd-Fe film is comparatively large(〜6 μm), but saturated bits can be written and erased under a low external magnetic field(〜15 Oe). The addition of Yttrium to Gd-Fe is effective in enhancing the coercivity and reducing the Curie temperature.Small bits(〜1 μm)could be written stably on Gd-Fe-Y amorphous films.
