With the application of the integral inversion method, a section of three-dimensional refractive index distribution in a solid phase object is reconstructed from multi-directional interferograms. The refractive index distribution in the object is assumed to be so weak that the straight path approximation of light rays can be used in the inversion method. In order to assure the straight path through the test field, we must avoid the refraction at the boundary : the object must be immersed in a liquid with the refractive index matching that on the surface of the object. By matching the refractive index of the immersion liquid carefully, the distribution in a sample object is successfully measured within a few percent error. However, complete matching is difficult in a practical experiment. It is found experimentally that a mismatch between the refractive indices in the third decimnal place is allowable. The effect of the discontinuity in the refractive index due to a mismatch is discussed.
