Correction of Mollenstedt Filter Images by Auxiliary Lenses and the Observation of Bend Contours of Aluminium Single Crystals

The parabola shaped energy loss spectra of Mollenstedt filter images can be straightened by putting a magnetic auxiliary lens in between the projector and the filter, but the energy resolution becomes much poorer because of spherical aberration. On the other hand, the defocusing of the images in the direction of the middle electrode slot can be corrected by putting an electrostatic auxiliary cylindrical lens beneath the filter without the deterioration of the resolution. As a reference substance aluminium is used, and the bend contours for some kind of inelastic scattering are observed.
