Analysis of Distributed Bragg-Reflector Laser Amplifiers

Laser amplifiers with distributed Bragg-reflectors are analyzed to obtain the transmission gain and the linewidth by using the coupled-mode equation. Compared with the distributed feedback (DFB) laser amplifiers, the distributed Bragg-reflector (DBR) laser amplifiers have an advantage that the transmission gain and the linewidth are controlled by the pumped length l and the optical loss Γ of corrugated waveguides. It becomes clear, from the numerical calculations, that the linewidth of DBR Laser amplifiers can be narrower than that of the DFB laseramplifiers by optimizing the pumped length l and the optical loss Γ in corrugated waveguides.
