Electrical Properties of AgI under Hydrostatic Pressure

Measurements were made of electrical properties of AgI crystals in various phases, which were obtained by varying the combination of the hydrostatic pressure and temperature. In α and NaCl-phases the ionic conductivity decreased with increasing pressure, as in the case of most alkali and silver halide crystals. But, in β/γ-phase the pressure dependence of the conductivity was unusual in that the ionic conductivity increased with increasing pressure. In particular, α-phase showed very large conductivity which had an anomalously large pressure dependence.
