Theoretical description of the temporal coherence of a multimode Q-switched laser is presented, where the modified mutual coherence function is used and the shape of pulse duration is assumed to be Gaussian. The experiment using a Michelson type two-beam interferometer is performed on a simple case where the Q-switched ruby laser has only a single axial mode. The experimental result that the degree of coherence is gradually degraded with the path difference of two interfering beams agrees fairly well with the theoretical one.
