Both effects of coupled motion of roll-sway and water depth on performance of Salter Duck as wave power absorber are studied experimentally and numerically in this paper. It is shown that the linear theory predicts the performance of Salter Duck even in roll-sway coupled motion, and it is possible for Salter Duck to absorb wave power even in roll-sway coupled mode as efficiently as it is in pure roll mode, if the load impedance is optimized. Absorbed wave energy coefficient of Salter Duck in case of extremely shallow water depth is smaller and narrower banded than one in case of deep water. And moreover, a fixed terminator of oscillating water column is studied as another promising type of wave power absorbers. This paper presents a simple prediction method, which is equivalent floating body approximation, and establishes its usefulness and limitation by means of comparisons of experiments and calculations. It is shown that the absorbed wave energy coefficient is remarkably high even in irregular waves.
