The experimental collapse behavior of wing tanks in ore carriers is shown first. Then experimental and analytical investigations are performed on ore pellets, struts and curved girders which are considered to have much importance to the collapse behavior of wing tanks. The pressure due to ore pellets is presented in simple forms. The idea of effective face plate is introduced in order to obtain the ultimate load of struts. The concept of equivalent thickness after panel buckling is also introduced to obtain the collapse strength of curved girders. Finally the analytical investigation is carried out for the collapse behavior of wing tanks and compared with the results of the experiment.
