Behavior of shipping water from the ship side in head waves and induced pressures on the deck are investigated by forced heaving tests of two-dimensional ship models in free surface of water. On the basis of experimental results, calculation method of the volume of shipping water on deck during one cycle of heaving motion is established. Using the calculation method, effects of shipping water on bending moments amidship of a large oil tanker are studied by calculation. And effects of shipping water on the transverse strength of a single decker cargo ship are studied.
