Externally applied GA greatly promoted elongation of the plumular hook section of the etiolated Alaska pea seedling, but IAA had no such effect when given either alone or with GA. PCIB inhibited elongation of the plumular hook section both in the presence and absence of applied GA. The PCIB effect in the absence of GA was partially overcome by IAA, but not completely. On the other hand, the PCIB effect in the presence of GA was completely overcome by IAA. No antagonic response was, however, obtained between GA and PCIB. CCC also retarded elongation of the section and this inhibition was completely overcome by GA, but not by IAA. There was little difference in the amount of endogenous auxin detect-able in GA treated and untreated sections. These results suggest that auxin is necessary for the growth of both GA treated and untreated plumular hook sections and that auxin and gibberellin act differently on the growth of the section.
