Nuclear, mitochondrial and chloroplast DNAs were first isolated from Cyanidium caldarium strain RK-1, a eukaryote with one of the smallest amounts of nuclear DNA known. The chloroplast DNA included a trnK sequence that showed a high degree of homology to those of chloroplast of land plants but lacked a typical intron.
