Salt inhibition of RuBP carboxylase activity from Aphanothece halophytica was caused by Cl^-, but not by K^+ nor Na^+. The intracellular Cl^- concentration increased about 4-fold from 35 mM to 150 mM, when NaCl concentration in the culture medium was increased from 0.5 M to 2.0 M.
