The composition and positional distribution of fatty acids.in monogalactosyldiacylglycerol, digalactosyldiacylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and sulphoquinovosyldiacylglycerol from two cyanobacteria, Anacystis nidulans and Synechococcus sp. grown at 25℃ have been determined and compared with measurements of the phase separation temperatures of the lipids. Only monogalactosyldiacylglycerol in Anacystis and sulphoquinovosyldiacylglycerol in Synechococcus showed phase separation temperatures above 0℃. The phase transition temperature of a sample of sulphoquinovosyldiacylglycerol containing over 90% of the dihexadecanoyl molecular species has been deter-mined to be 43℃ for the Na^+ salt and 38℃ for the Mg^<++> salt.
