Studies on CN^--insensitive respiration in plant roots V. Changes in glucose metabolism caused by 10^<-4>_M CN^- pretreatment

Metabolic changes accompanied by the induction of CN^--insensitive respiration in plant roots were investigated. Glucose-U-^<14>C was administrated to untreated and 10^<-4> M CN^- pretreated rice roots in the presence or absence of 10^<-2> M CN^-. ^<14>C in-corporation into malate increased and that into citrate decreased remarkably with the 10^<-4> M CN^- pretreatment. 10^<-2>M CN^- generally suppressed the incorporation of ^<14>C into organic acids. However, the ^<14>C incorporation into aspartic and glutamic acids was not reduced, and that into alanine increased greatly in the presence of 10^<-2> M CN^-.
