The O-methylation of 3,4-dihydrcxyphenylalanine with rat liver homogenate was investigated in the presence of S-adenosylmethionine and MgCl_2 in vitro. By catechol-O-methyltransferase, it was found that 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine was methylated to 3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenylalanine.
