The population dynamics of Masakimyia pustulae was investigated at two urban and four semiurban sites in Kagoshima City from 1972 to 1974. The main mortality factor of gall midges in the urban conditions was the weakened host leaves while that in the semiurban conditions was the parasitism. The mortality by a platygasterid during the third instar stage seems to be the key factor of the population fluctuation. The survivorship curve of the gall midge in the semiurban conditions is characterized by a stepwise curve.
