The tree-sparrow feeds on gall-making aphids, Colopha moriokaensis and Tetraneura sp. The percentage predation on galls was 10-16% on trees which were moderate or high in the density of galls. The sparrow preferred trees crowded with galls to those less crowded, but also lightly galled leaves to heavily galled ones. Factors influencing the intensity of predation are discussed.
