A triploid (3n=18) clone of Myzus persicae was produced in laboratory breeding experiments. It apparently resulted from a failure of reduction division in the sexual oocyte. Apterous and alate viviparae of the tiploid clone were more globose than viviparae of diploid M. persicae reared under the same conditions, and in many respects their morphology showed fundatriciform tendencies. The triploid was less fecund than diploid M. persicae under both long- and short-day conditions, and did not produce any males, apparently due to failure of the sex determination mechanism. Oviparae of the triploid mated with diploid males did not produce any fertile eggs.
