Near-Threshold Fatigue Crack Propagation in Welded Joints under Random Loadings

62 level block fatigue loadings in which waveform was approximate to the Rayleigh distribution of peaks (distribution factor=0.25, 0.5 and 1) were applied on center-cracked transverse butt welded joints in which tensile residual stresses were always induced at the crack tip. It was revealed that the fatigue crack propagation rate, da/dn^*, could be estimated by the result obtained from constant amplitude tests assuming a linear cumulative damage law. That is, da/dn^*=C(ΔK_<eq^>^<*m>-ΔK_<th>^m) where ΔK_<eq>^*={Σ(ΔK_i^mn_i)/Σn_i}^<1/m>, ni=0 at ΔK_i≦ΔK_<th> or n_i=n_i at ΔK_i>ΔK_<th>.
