The objective of this paper is to report on the thickness effects on the brittle fracture toughness of weld metal which is laid on high tensile strength steel manufactured by thermo mechanical control process. Three point bend test specimens and compact tension specimens of various plate thickness were used in a series of tests conducted at -100℃. Thickness effects of weld metal on the critical CTOD, δ_c, were evaluated employing the "plate thickness constraint coefficient", β, proposed by the authors. The δ_c, values of weld metal showed a tendency to decrease with the increase in specimen thickness, and the effect of specimen geometry on the δ_c, value was not recognized. These values for any plate thickness were evaluated by using a formula taking, β as a parameter.
