Weld cracking problems in welded steel constructions are discussed from the stand points of restraint of weldments and preheating methods. The method proposed can be successfully applied for evaluations of weld cracking susceptibility in steel constructions. Intensity of restraint of weld joints in steel structures is obtained from the relations of size and thickness of weldments, arrangements of structural members and welding sequences. Discussions are made on cooling time until 300℃ in local preheating and effect of preheating on reaction stresses.
