Two related species of the Satyridae, Neope goschkevitschii MENETRIES and N. niphonica BUTLER, from Honshu, Japan, differ markedly in their karyotypes as follows : the haploid number is 46 in goschkevitschii, but 28 in niphonica ; the haploid karyotype of goschkevitschii comprizes one marker chromosome that is the largest element in the complement, making karyotype examination a reliable way to discern these two related species of Neope.
