Collections of drosophilid flies were undertaken in various parts around Iwamizawa City, Hokkaido, during a period from May, 1959 to October, 1960, use being made of small jars baited with fermenting banana. A total of 3190 specimensrepresented by 19 species was obtained. They are listed in Tables 1 and 2. Drosophila auraria type A and D.nigromaculata were found to be dominant species in the area here considered. Seasonal variations and their diurnal activity were observed in some dominant species. The seasonal activity of flies generally showed a high peak in summer. Most of the dominant species showed a bimodal feature in their diurnal activity, with two peaks in the morning and in the evening. Only aspecies, D.coracina, showed a unimodal activity with a peak in the midday. Two rare species, Aulacigaster leucopeza (Aulacigastridae) and D.kunzei, were collected in this survey, though the number is very few.
