1.The melanotic tumors in the hind-intestine of the mature third-instar larvae of v tu and st tu strains of D. melanogaster were cultured to investigate the effects of Fe^<+++> upon the melanotic growth in the synthetic medium containing Fe(NH_4)(SO_4)_2・12H_2O(Fe^<+++>) at concentrations of 1.0mM, 2.5mM, and 5.0mM respectively. 2.When 1.0mM Fe^<+++> was added to the synthetic medium, it was observed that progressive melanotic growth of tumors was decreased, and the excellent and slight growths were increased. The addition of 2.5mM Fe^<+++> to the synthetic medium showed the similar effects on the melanotic growth. 5.0mM Fe^<+++> contained in the synthetic medium showed the effect of accelerating the melanotic growth pronouncedly. 3.In relation to the effects of Cu^<++> upon the melanotic growth of tumors in the previous paper, these results seem to indicate that the transition metals take an important role in the formation of the melanotic tumor.
