• Three species of freshwater planarians, Phagocata iwamai ICHIKAWA ET KAWAKATSU, Dendrocoelopsis lacteus ICHIKAWA ET OKUGAWA and Dendrocoelopsis ezensis ICHIKAWA ET OKUGAWA, are inhabited in a spring-fed stream running through the swampy land in Nayoro City, North Hokkaido. This stream is the type locality of Phagocata iwamai. The first report describes the seasonal migration of these three species. The method of the field observation is as follows: 1) once a month, as many planarians as possible were collected for ten minutes on each visit to the eleven stations, and the number of worms of each species was noted; 2) the results were recorded, together with the variations of water temperature of the stations. The substantial part of the surveys was made from January to May, 1962 and from June o December, 1963. Phagocata iwamai in the most dominant species. It was observed that the species scarcely migrate in this stream according to the seasonal change of water temperature. From March to June they developed reproductive organs and from May to June the laid cocoons. Den. lacteus, a densely inhabiting species, was the most sensitive to the seasonal change of water temperature of the habitats. In the season of the colder months, it was observed that the stations near springs of rather warm water (C, D and I) were crowded with the specimens of this species. In the warmer seasons, they spread their domain over the stations of a large quantity of water and muddy bottom. From December to April of the next year, almost all the specimens developed their reproductive organs and lay cocoons sporadically throughout this duration. Den. ezensis was also sensitive to the seasonal change of water temperature of the habitats. Stations, G, D, F, H and I, were densely inhabited this species in the warmer seasons. Their reproductive organs developed from December to May of the next year. The most active breeding was observed in April and May.
