Insensibility to Re-administered Cadmium in Regenerated Blood Vessels of Cadmium Damaged Rat Testes

Following the selective injury of the testes by cadmium administered in a single subcutaneous injection, a series of intratesticular blood vessels are regenerated. The testes having these regenerated vessels, however, are no longer susceptible to reinjected cadmium. To clarify the mechanism involved in this phenomenon, the present experiment was undertaken to determine whether or not the regenerated vessels were capable of absorbing re-administered cadmium. Adult male rats were given a single subcutaneous injection of 1.5mg of cadmium chloride. At 100 days after the injection, the same does of cadmium chloride was again injected subcutaneously. One day and 10 days after the second injection, the cadmium content in the testes was considerably high, although no destructive change was found in testes having regenerated blood vessels. The results of this experiment, therefore, seem to indicate that the insensibility to cadmium in the regenerated blood vessels may not be attributable to decreased capacity for cadmium absorption through the regenerated vascular wall.
