A Study of the Treatment of Psychosomatic Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynecology : On Fasting and Autogenic Therapy

Autogenic therapy is so-called oriental somatopsychic method and autogenic self-regulatory method. We have applied autogenic therapy to a total of 132 psychosomatic outpatients and to 18 women in labor, and fasting therapy to 33 cases. As the exact mechanism of fasting therapy is still obscure, the author personally underwent fasting and measured the effects of the therapy on bodily functions. Fasting therapy is similar to autogenic therapy in that allows for a shortened treatment period, it is applicable to both the physical and psychological aspects of the cases and it acts somatically to bring about a readjustment of psychic disturbances.
