Variouus fixatives including acetone, ethanol, formalin, paraformaldehyde with picric acid, and glutaraldehyde were used for the staining of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGTP) activities in human fresh frozen liver sections by an azo-coupling method. The staining intensity was variable among the fixatives; however, acetone gave best preservation of both enzyme activities.
