Bismuth(III) was extracted quantitatively into hexane from the aqueous phase containing 1 mmol dm^<-3> ο,ο'-diethyldithiophosphate (dtp^-) at pH 0-4, and determined at 325 nm(ε = 1.51 × 10^4 mol^<-1> dm^3 cm^<-1> ) or 395 nm(e=4.09x 10 mol dm cm ). The species extracted was [Bi(dtp).,] and the extrac tion constant for this complex was determined as 2.0 × 10^<18> (mol dm^<-3>)^<-3>
