To improve the sensitivity in the UHF plasma torch-atomic emission spectrometry (AES), the electrode was modified. As the conventional pneumatic nebulization has not worked well, the ultrasonic nebullzation was adopted. By using the modified electrode, the sample aerosol was introduced into the central porltion of UHF plasma torch, where the highest temperature was observed. Compared with the conventional electrode, the relative net intensities were increased from 1.1 to 4.1 fold for six elements using the modified electrode. Detection limits for seven elements were determined and compared with those of a conventional UHF plasma torch-AES.
