1) Male chicks of white Leghorn were raised by the thiamine deficient diet with the addition of thiamine hydrochloride, thiamine dicetylsulfate or dibenzoylthiamine in the amount of equivalent to 0.1 mg of thiamine hydrochloride for 30 days. Thereafter, the chicks were fed on only the deficient diet for 5 days without the administration of the thiamine derivatives. Then the contents of thiamine in liver, muscle and blood were determined, and it was found that there was no difference of effect according to the kinds of thiamine derivatives on the contents of thiamine in these tissues. 2) The chicks were fed on the thiamine deficient diet for about 15 days, and when they showed the characteristic symptoms of avitaminosis, thiamine hydrochloride, thiamine dicetylsulfate or dibenzoylthiamine was given to them orally in the amount of equivalent to 0.1 mg or 1.0 mg of thiamine hydrochloride, and the effects of these derivatives were compared. Thiamine hydrochloride produced the effect within several hours, whereas thiamine dicetylsulfate and dibenzoylthiamine could produce no apparent effect within 50-80 hours. Therefore, it might be considered that there were some differences in the processes of absorption and activation of these derivatives.
