Elemental analysis, terminal amino acids, and amino acid composition of the alkaline proteinase from Cephalosporium sp. ATCC 11550 were determined. The enzyme contained 15.9% of nitrogen and a trace of sulfur. Both the amino and carboxy terminal amino acids were identified as serine residues. The enzyme protein was composed of 202 amino acid residues : Lys 3,His 5,Arg 12,Asp 31,Thr 18,Ser 22,Glu 8,Pro 5,Gly 16,Ala 18,Val 12,Met 2,Ileu 13,Leu 12,Tyr 13,Phe 6,Try 6 and ammonia 4 and the polypeptide chain seemed to have no cysteine bridge.
