Some physico-chemical properties of the alkaline proteinase from Cephalosporium sp. ATCC 11550 were determined. The sedimentation coefficient and molecular weight were estimated to be S^0_<20w> 2.9±0.05 and 22500,respectively. The maximum absorption of ultraviolet is shown at 277-280 mμ (E^<1%>_<280mμ>11.1-11.2) and its isoelectric point is pH 10.5. From parameters obtained by optical rotation, dispersion measurement indicated that the structure of the enzymic protein had a significantly high content of β-structure. Comparison with other known proteinases of Cephalosporium origin has caused us to conclude that the enzyme is a proteinase with unique enzymic characters.
