It has been established that some bacteria can produce uricase, but there seems to be no study on industrial production of uricase. In this paper, isolation of bacteria having high potency to produce uricase and the effects of some culture conditions on the enzyme production are dealt with.Uricase producing bacteria were isolated from soil using enriched culture technique and the isolates were screened by their uricase producibility. Two strains, one ws found to be related to Micrococcus and the other was Brevibacterium, were obtained as the best starins for the production.Some culture conditions for the production were examined and the following results were obtained;1) Glucose, maltose, sucrose and lactose were found to be good carbon sources for both growth and uricase production.2) Urate was the best nitrogen sources for uricase production, addition of other nitrogen sources such as urea to ureate containing medium resulted in less producibility of the enzyme.3) FeSO_4 was effective in uricase production.4) Addition of Na-pantothenate or biotin to the medium increased the uricase production.
