Blocks of dimension of about a×5.0×30 mm. were sawed from the air seasoned bamboo stems (Phyllostachys edulis Riv. from Kyoto, Hyogo and Shimane; Phyllostachys reticulata Magel from Sado) in which a is the dimension prepared as next 4 types;type 1; has a all part of stem 2; no outer layer 3; no inner layer 4; no outer and inner layer These blocks were soaked in water untill completely saturated and then exposed to the temperature of 42℃. and the relative humidity of 0.0% in a desiccator.The moisture movements from these blocks were measured.1) The maximum amounts of moisture contents are small in the outer layer and the rates of moisture movement from this layer are very late. From this reason, the existence of epidermal system and a distribution of fibrovascular bundles relates to the rate of moisture loss, the rate of moisture movements from the type 1 are small and type 4 has a greater one.2) The correlation between the ratio of moisture movement and the elapsed time is appeared with parabolic curves, however, the type 1 shows linear relation especially when the drying temperature is lower.3) There is no basic difference of the rate of moisture movement between two bamboos, and it seems that the rate of moisture movement of bamboo is smaller than the Sugi Wood.4) After 24 hours elapsed, type 4 has a small moisture contents (nearelly equal to type 2), and type 1 has greater one (nearelly equal to type 3)5) The percentages of radial and tangential shrinkages are greater in type 3 and smaller in type 2 or 4,
