This experiment was perfected upon Robinia puseudoacacia var. bessoniana, the rare parent tree, for the purpose of increasing the species rapidly and abundantly by means of stem-and root-cutting, touching upon the size of material, effect of hormones, situation of base-cutting, etc. The result of experiment may be summarized as follows : 1. The rooting percentage under the favorable condition is 20-30% for the cuttings 2.5 cm. long. The percentage inceases according to the length of the cuttings and reaches 100% when the cuttings are 10 cm. long.2. The rooting percentage is not much influenced by the thickness of the cuttings except the very fine cuttings whose diameters are below 4 mm.3. In case of a very fine cuuttings, the rooting percentage does not increase though their length exceeds 7.5 cm.4. The rooting percentage is best when the bases of cuttings are situated on just below the node.5. The favourable concentration of α-naphthalene sodium acetate varies according to the thickness of the cuttings.6. The rooting percentage of the root cuttings increases according to the length up to 8 cm., and also according to the thickness up to 10 mm. in diameter.7. The α-naphthalene sodium acetate treatment is very effective even for the root cutting. For instance, the rooting percentage of root cuttings, 2-2 mm. in diamater and 8 cm. long, is 10-20% without the treatment and 80-90% with the favourable treatment. But in the case of a strong treatment (concentration : 0.1%, and duration of treatment : 12-hours) the rooting becomes active but the germination is extremely oppressed.The rooting percentage of the root cuttings does not increase by treating with sugar and vitamine (mixture of B_1,B_6,and nicotine acid.)
