A hybrid simulation system for fermentation processes that combines a statistical procedure and fuzzy inference was developed. The system enavled the simultaneous simulation of both the time courses and physiological states of culture. The method was successfully applied to numerical and physiological simulation in a fed-batch culture for α-amylase production.
