Aspergillus niger LCF9 synthesized a new semi-alkaline proteinase with high collagenase activity. The properties and operating range of the enzyme were determined. Tests performed on nine commercial native collagens have showed the enzyme being able to hydrolyze the collagen chain without amino acid being released and to liberate low molecular weight peptides of potential interest in therapeutics.
