Concentrations of the heavy metals in activated sludge from a combined sewage treatment system were examined. Water adn sludge samples were taken monthly and chemically analyzed for a period of one year. The total content of heavy ometals was found to be 69.35 mg/g.MLSS on average through one year and to be approximately equivalent to 22% of the ash content in MLSS. The relative contents of the heavy metals examined were in the following order : Fe>Cr>Zn>Mn>Pb>Cu>Nu>Co. The concentrations of soluble COD of influent, mixed liquor, and effluent, MLSS, MLVSS, and the pH of mixed liquor were negatively correlated with the contents of ash, total heavy metals, and each heavy metal, and the mixed liquor temperature.
