A simple non-structured model is proposed to describe the growth of Methylomonas clara in continuous culture. The model includes the inhibitory effect on growth of both the substrate and a certain by-product of growth which is produced in proportion to the substrate consumed.Product inhibition is assumed to be of a non-competitive type ; to describe the inhibition due to the substrate, a ratio of second order polynomials was used. This function resembles inhibition of enzymatic kinetics.Stability analysis of the system showed that a washout of the culture is more likely to occur, at the same dilution rate, if a more concentrated substrate feed is used.
