The organic acids produced by the cultivation of Aspergillus niger on solid fermentation media containing sucrose, bagasse and insoluble natural phosphate can solubilize the phosphorous present in the phosphate. Flask scale experiments, carried out with an A. niger that converted about 30% of the sucrose into organic acids in 3-4 days, lead to solubilization of 23% of the total P_2O_5.
