Herpes Simplex Viruses (HSV) are extremely widespread in the human population. Nucleoside analogues are the only approved medicine for HSV infection. They are highly active and selective because they are specifically phosphorylated by viral thymidine kinase in infected cells. However, ACV resistant HSV infection has been reported during the last decade. This drives the motif to develop new anti-HSV agent. We have investigated many extracts and compounds of natural products based upon the knowledge of traditional medicine. Several compounds, which act differently from nucleoside analogues, are identified.
