The evaporating heat transfer of R-22 in an extruded aluminum multichannel tubes has been experimentally studied. The experimental apparatus consists mainly of a refrigerant supply system, the test section of 100 mm-long aluminum multichannel tubes, a preheater for the control of refrigerant inlet quality. The heat flux is applied by using heating wire wound on the outer wall of the test section. A set of thermocouples are embedded on the wall of the test section to measure the wall temperatures. For refrigerant mass flux of 184 and 380 kg/m^2s, the wall heat flux, 2 and 4 kW/m^2, the inlet quality is varied from 0.1 to 0.9. The evaporating heat transfer coefficients in the range of the present study were 250〜800 W/m^2K. This range of heat transfer coefficients appears to be lower than that for the typical large-diameter round tubes. The present multichannel tubes are rectangular and its hydraulic diameter is 1.6 mm.
