A model and a method of numerical analysis of the cavity growth on a grain boundary hi metals by lattice diffusion due to the difference in the transgranular chemical potential are proposed. The chemical potential on the cavity surface is higher than that in the grain boundary (GB) ahead of the cavity. This implies that the atoms are transported from the cavity surface to the GB and the cavity growth is stable. The growth rate of the cavity half length decelerates as the cavity grows in the early stage. It is nearly constant in the middle stage and accelerated in the last stage. This signifies that the rate in the middle stage governs the life under Nabarro-Herring creep.
