The method of integrated impulse response, which was proposed by M.R.Schroeder in 1965, is usually used to measure the reverberation times in rooms. However, this method is available for all decaying phenomena including damping measurement. For example, it can be used in the observation of averaging time decay characteristics of a vibrating beam generated by impulsive excitation. Although in the measurements of damping characteristics of thin plates or structures are mainly held by use of resonant curve observation method in this time, difficulty of dividing each mode in the high loss factor or in the high frequency region often causes difficulty of the loss factor measurement. Time decay observation method often makes possible even high loss factor or high mode density samples. Especially, the method of integrated impulse response gives the more detail information of the vibration decaying characteristics. In this report, about the system including digital devices, and about the measuring procedure to actualize the method in the measurement of vibration damping are examined.
