This paper first brings forward a problem with respect to specimen allocation in S-N tests. Specifically, this is the problem of finding out an adequate ratio n_I/n_<II> in order to obtain the inclined part (finite life domain) and horizontal part (fatigue limit domain) of the S-N curve with equal statistical confidence, where n_I and n_<II> are the numbers of specimens to be allocated to the former and latter parts, respectively. Then, a simple formula of n_I/n_<II> is derived, which enables one to determine n_I and n_<II> adequately when the total number of spsecimens n available for the S-N test is specified. Based on this formula, it is also studied how to find out an appropriate number of total specimens n to be tested in the S-N test, and some suggestions are made concerning n. A convenient diagram for specimen allocation has been obtained from the present results.
