This report deals with the development of a new precision shearing process based on the cutting mechanism for the formation of a smooth surface. At first, a shearing method which shears two piled specimens and another method which uses negative clearance for this purpose are tried. And, it is confirmed that the negative clearance method can enlarge remarkably the range in which the cutting mechanism is realized and it is applicable to a practical precision shearing process as a principle of forming the smooth sheared surface. Finally, "Opposed dies shearing process" is proposed as a new precision shearing process. This process is quite different in its principle from the conventional precision shearing processes, and has many features, among which, suppression of the burr, applicability to brittle materials and the prolongation of the tool life may be the most dominant.
