In this report, the experimental results of the elastic and plastic deformations of ground surfaces in contact were compared with the calculated ones which were analyzed in the 1st report, where the asperity directions were laid at an arbitrary cross angle to each other. Furthermore, the characteristics of ground surfaces were studied. The calculated values of the above-mentioned deformations agreed with the experimental results. It was revealed that the elastic deformation and the plastic one for β=90° and ρ=1.0 are 1.8 and 1.3 times as large as the values for β=0° or ρ=0.0 respectively, where β and ρ are the cross angle of the asperity directions in contact and the ratio of projection slopes of two surfaces respectively. Besides, it was made clear that the relation between the normal load and the deformations of plane joints are linear on a double logarithmic paper and these deformations are classified by the contact surface coefficient which is determined by the hardness of materials and the machining methods.
