Re-Examination of the Antiferroelectric Structure of PbZrO_3

The crystal structure of antiferroelectric PbZrO3 was re-examined by high resolution powderneutron diffraction. The structure obtained with asstrmed modulations associated with thelattice vibrational modes >[3(TO) and R:'!: is alrnost the same as that obtained previously withthe saune asstumptions. However, one coordinate of oxygeza positions obtained by the refinementfor all crystallographically possible paraztaeters is different from that obtained previously ttnderthe same conditions. The difference between the two sets of the structural pararneters obtainedhere is meaningful. The result indicates that the modulation associated with the Rag mode isfairly distorted. This strtucture agrees well with that recently investigated using local-densitycalculations.
