The modified quantum Heisenberg rnodel (MQHM) is proposed. The lVIQHlV[ is characterizedby the following exchange interactions: First, the interactions fall off as inverse square of thedistance between sites and have alternate positive and negative signs with increasing distancebetween sites. Secondly, the interactions work well only along the coordinate axes. By use of thespin-wave theory based on the Holstein-Primakoff transformation, the ground-state propertiesand the possibility of a finite-temperature phase transition are investigated. Within the linearspin-wave approximation, it is shown that in the antiferromagnetic naodel, there exists a zero-temperature Nc5el order in one dimension and OCCLIIS a finite-temperature phase transition in twodimensins.
